5 Tips: Safe on the road
As a tourist, you are often an easy target for scammers and thieves. Blogger Dorie from the blog thedorie.com shares her 5 tips for safe travel!

1. Which bag is safe for travel?
Choose a crossbody bag instead of a handbag. Make sure the strap is made of sturdy material so it can't be easily cut. Even better is a belt bag. You wear it close to your body and always have it in view. And: belt bags are super trendy again – Win Win! If you prefer a backpack, choose one with sturdy material and a concealed zipper. This way, you offer pickpockets fewer opportunities.

2. Hide your valuables!
If you have everything in one place, it's very easy for everything to be gone. Therefore, leave some valuables in the hotel: Store them in a safe place, such as the hotel safe or the double bottom of your suitcase. A passport cover with a card holder also protects your documents and keeps them together. While on the go, you should also put some items in a belt bag or backpack, and the other part in the inside pocket of your jacket or front pants pocket. Extra tip: Prepare some money in advance for small purchases. This way, you don't have to constantly pull out your wallet and offer thieves less of a target.

3. Be vigilant!
If you want to travel safely, be aware of what's happening around you. Also, it's better to place your bag on your lap or in front of your feet instead of hanging it on the back of a chair and put your valuables away. A very essential tip: Always carry your bag or backpack closed!

4. Know the tricks!
Every city has its own con artists, so it's advisable to google the scams of the respective city beforehand. To safely withdraw money while traveling, use ATMs inside bank buildings if possible, and take two bank cards with you on the trip in case one stops working. It's also important to always have the international blocking numbers of your banks at hand, just in case something happens.

5. Make backups!
... of your most important documents and store them in the cloud. Depending on the location and duration of your stay, I also print out the copies and carry them as a download on my phone. This way, you can more easily prove your identity in an emergency.
