Kangaroo Leather: General Information
In Europe, kangaroo leather is classified as an exotic leather. In Australia, however, it is used in the same way that we use deerskin. As natural predators decline and the kangaroo population grows, they are hunted. In Australia, the meat is mostly processed into dog food or shipped abroad.

Kangaroo Leather Properties/Processing
The leather is considered very tear-resistant and durable. Nevertheless, it can be processed into thinner materials than Cowhide leather. Kangaroo leather is usually 1 mm thick, whereas Cowhide leather ranges from 1.2 mm to 1.4 mm. However, kangaroo leather is twice as tear-resistant and absorbs only half as much water.
The leather is often used in the shoe and boot industry, as well as for gloves and motorcycle clothing. It is usually chrome-tanned and is visually very difficult to distinguish from Cowhide leather.
